D3 ....you are a 3D modeling pimp!
Lots of practice, is that your profession?
What program do you draw with?

Mr. Dewey... I'd like to throw this crazy idea by you...

I ordered your v2 LED P2 Battery Cover the other day... Great idea when I use it with my own Lipos...
However, Can you create some kind of add-on, integration above the door so the original LED could fit when I use a P2 Battery?

Pics include my scotch taped LED for positioning, and a pic from a P2 conversion I saw on line:

OK, the above idea was probably stupid, , but here is another Idea similar to your f550 mount...

Here is your version:

Can you create something that would hold the v2 LED to the upper part of the Phantom landing gear? The v2 LED could be placed there when I use a P2 Battery... (my P1.5 conversion isn't together yet, so I used my P1 as a model... my v2 LED is scotch taped where it should be placed).

Shutupandtakemymoney. Again.

I assume you've already been advised of my order.

 Yep I had Skull and Cross Bones sold so I assume that was you O.I (I don't get told details of who buys my stuff from Shapeways, just when, what and eventually what country they are from). Glad you like the look of it.

Practice yes, profession not currently.... but I do have a BSC Hons in Computer Aided Product Design (from like 10+ years back). I learnt on a program called Rhinoceross v2 (known as Rhino) back in Uni and amazingly last year I discovered that my old version of it (like 1998 version) would export to .STL files which Shapeways can use.
Last week I finally saved enough money up to get Rhino v5 which is streaks ahead of my old version but very similar in use. Most importantly it has a major improvement on rendering (as you can tell). I only scrape the surface with it to be honest.
Best thing with v5 is that I can draw/trace outlines (like the skull/cross bones) using Adobe Illustrator, import them into Rhino and then easily make them 3D.
So if anyone has a simple outline picture or word I can integrate it into a battery door without a mass of work (like 30 mins now I have the template design).

I always loved doing it, just went a different career path (web design, graphic design and I.T Suppor :ugeek: ) - This hobby has given me an excuse to do it again for fun and Shapeways means that fun can at least almost pay for itself

Mr. Dewey... I'd like to throw this crazy idea by you...

PJA - I had exactly the same need as you because I am currently using the P2 batt more than anything else. Just finished this:

v2LEDLegMount.jpg

A little hard to visualise this but basically you remove the outer screw from your rear right leg, slide this around the leg and then screw it down using that same screw. If you want a firmer grip there is the square tab at the bottom that accepts a small zip tie, wire or string etc. That will pin it against the leg. Kinda like this:

v2-LED-Concept.jpg

98% comfortable with the dimensions. I know the clip is fine but I just need to be sure it will work without a prototype test first (which I'd love to avoid). If all is good I'll pop it on Shapeways later.

Looked up that Rhino v5(along with all the other animal named apps, penguin/flamingo)...wow, powerful stuff.
I doodled a little bit using google sketchup(free) designing a buddy's beer brewing rig.

Not the most advanced 3d model but I had fun drawing it.
I would have never known about shapeways if not for the phantom and all the parts posted on the forums. Maybe I'll try drawing a part up.

Me either to be honest. I have said it before and i'll say it again, it was actually SimenSays and his excellent work that introduced me to Shapeways and inspired me to dust off my old Rhino version and see what I could still do!

While it isn't really in my financial interest to say it, I really do think people should give it a go themselves... with things like sketchup, Shapeways and the mass of youtube (or better still Lynda.com) videos tutorials the world really is your oyster. Just requires time and patience to make some pretty great stuff. The real skill comes from being able to visualise it all in your head to avoid mistakes (especially if you don't have a 3D printer and rely on Shapeways for prototypes like I do). That is where my Uni work helped cause designing for a 3D printer is sooo unrestrictive compared to making precision tooling/moulds to work in full injection mould mass production (a **** sight more fun too!).

NAVA v2 Mount is all good and online for sale: http://www.shapeways.com/model/1728011/ ... shell.html

Re: Video: Fitted my Phantom v1 into a Phantom 2 shell (easy

Another one to add to the pile. Makes it possible to use the Phantom 1 frosted glass and still have access to the USB port (plus its cheaper than others due to the hole!).

Re: Video: Fitted my Phantom v1 into a Phantom 2 shell (easy

Got back into town today and had my thunder power 5800 waiting for me.

Didnt like the cheapo heatshrink they had on it so im going to replace it.
Did some minor carving of the right side of the battery box but it fits with lots of room to spare.
Still dont have a 5amp charger and have to fully assemble this 1.5 to test it out.

Excellent, I'm anxious to see/hear more once you get to it. Looks pretty ideal (or as close as I could hope for) from what I can see so far. Also curious to see it re-heatshrinked, and to know where you buy it at that diameter.

Re: Video: Fitted my Phantom v1 into a Phantom 2 shell (easy

Awesome! At 351g, and assuming 360 with an xt60 installed, that's still 37g lighter than my maddog 5400. You submitted a bid for this battery right? I wonder how low they'll go.

Here is a site, but I was just going to run by a local RC shop and see if they would sell me a piece.

I'm thinking they might take $90. I have been looking everyday for another listing but haven't seen one yet. I offered $66 for 2 2700mah g8 packs and they said the lowest they could do is $44.99 each($89.98 total) They weigh 180g each.

I'd be interested to see what/where you had to shave down for that to see what (if any) impact it would have on the P2 battery fitting.
Also what connectors come with it? Is it raw cable under that black heat shrink or are there big gold bullets? If the latter you might find the XT60 lowers the weight a bit?

I can take a pic of the battery box tonight. Basically just cut out the right side that the P2 would slide against. Dont imagine it would affect it at all.

Yes, just bare wires. I weighed it before I removed the shrink wrap and that weighs about 3g as well.

Is the battery less than 55mm wide? If you can shave the right side (the side opposite the p2 battery connector) and still fit a full sized 5400mah in shell, that's really the best of both worlds.

Re: Video: Fitted my Phantom v1 into a Phantom 2 shell (easy

Around 50mm wide

Shaved side rail, Gonna shave the 2 supports farthest back a little more, but the battery fits as is.

Got my IPC in the mail today.

Got the traxxas/xt60 adapter today too. Wow, i didnt think the terminals on the IPC were that big.
I was thinking of finding some slip-fit female terminals to fit around the IPC terminals. Then asking a certain 3d modeler(hint hint :-D) to design a door with a mount for the terminals, so when it snaps on it plugs in the battery as well. That would be shhweet

So you would connect the battery to the terminals in the door each time first? Or just solder them on to the batt leads directly to start with? I haven't decided yet if I want to add the IPC or not, but if it can provide an easier connect/disconnect even with non-P2 batts it may be worth it for me.

And I don't have enough of Dewey's doors already as it is, so what's one more? :D

Stuff the battery in, attach the plug to the door, then snap the door on. Just so the door helps hold the plug on. Don't think the P2 plug has enough tension to hold it together like an xt60. Until then i'm stuck using xt60's.

Re: Video: Fitted my Phantom v1 into a Phantom 2 shell (easy

Thanks for the pics.

I really don't like the fact that P2 batteries are held in by the door clasps. There have been numerous reports of the batteries flying out of the P2 in crashes. Then you lose the FPV feed, lights, etc. that can help you locate it. I think XT60s are the way to go.

Yeah, you're probably right. I dont see myself buying a P2 battery for a while(until the price drops). So i'll just put the IPC on my growing stack of unused parts

While i will always love to "shutupandtakeyourmoney" as O.I would put and while I hate being a buzz kill, I fear development of that would be fraught with issues as it really depends on the manufacturer dimensions/tolerances on specific parts used as connectors. The door would also be subject to a lot more force so it would have to be pretty thick and well braced.... net result is an expensive option.

Interesting cutting you've done there. Elguano mentioned the issue of 'fly out' batteries. The P2's batt are not only held in by the door clip but also held by 2 clips at the far end of the inside runner guides. Indeed this clip is what makes them a bit of an arse to remove as they are so tight. Looks like you have removed both of them so you might need to be a little careful if you do use a P2 battery. A shame really as it does look like a great option for a battery. I especially like the length of it.

No biggie Dewey, I'll just use the xt60s

I removed the right side completly but could have kept the left but I just shaved off the little protruding part. Could have kept it but I chopped it anyway.
