Any baby-boomer who doesn't remember THAT photo stayed a little too long at Woodstock. ;) It's iconic. Used to do a little wedding photography, had a couple of Nikon F4's, also loved landscape photography but NEVER was good enough to produce results like Mr. Montanus. Had my own darkroom, developed and printed all my own pics. Cibachrome was my favorite. Amazing how much photography has evolved in just a decade! These days I just play around with the D7200 I just got not long ago. Good thing about Nikon, can STILL use all my glass even on newer cameras.

You sir, have a VERY cool friend!

Walt Disney liked the portrait so much he drew Neil a Mickey Mouse picture and signed it.

Growing up in Rochester we lived & breathed Kodak (you remember the one time film creator & giant). I was raised on Kodak wages my dad earned. Most of my family back then worked at Kodak or General Motors/Delco. Unfortunately even though Kodak developed the digital camera they didn't see it's potential and continued on with film production. They were a power house, a city inside itself with fire companies, ambulance crews, a coal fired power facility, trains & tracks and buildings covering miles & miles. Today they are nothing, and many of the buildings have been imploded to save money. It is sad to see, and my office is across from a grassy field that one time held buildings and workers. Anyways, sorry for the rantings. Neil, Jims dad, was offered all his work when Kodak went bankrupt a few years back so he was able to get much of his life's work back. I went to a gallery showing of it and it was amazing. There is a TV show out there about him also.
When I hang out with Jim I try to pick his brain on his methods. He produces some incredible scenes. I use a Canon 700D which like your Nikon can use SLR lenses. I am currently experimenting with a 24mm prime SLR lens. And if you missed the 'bacteria' series you gotta see them. The film was damaged by bacteria over time but it produced some very interesting results - http://www.montanusphotography.com/neil_montanus_bio/latestwork.htm

Anyways, sorry for the rantings

No need to apologize to me! I love hearing stuff like this. It is very sad that Kodak couldn't see the potential or future of digital. To be honest, I even held out longer than I should have making the switch to digital maintaining that the only REAL photography and prints come from negatives and paper in spite of the fact that I've always loved to use Photoshop.I still enjoy printing my own pics sometimes though and have a darkroom STILL filled with Kodak paper, fixer and other misc. chemicals. There's just something magical and old school about seeing that image slowly appear from the paper in developer that still fascinates me. Always been a huge fan of Ansel Adams, Edward Weston and Dorothea Lang and the zone system, high contrast black & whites.

[There is a TV show out there about him also]
Finding that on the net is absolutely on my to-do list today!

WOW! Talk about your happy mistakes!

Aw crap!.... I made the mistake of clicking on your weather station website Porky. So neat I went back and read the entire thread and now I want a freaking weather station. Yeah, like I really need ANOTHER expensive hobby.. :D Just might have to put this one on the list along with photography (have multiple film cameras & Nikon D7200), astronomy (have a Celestron Nexstar Evolution 6), computers in general (the majority of space in my house if filled with so many computers and electronics I'm surprised NSA hasn't paid me a visit).

I just may have to get a job again...:eek::eek: Thanks a lot Porky.. LOL
Cool stuff though Porky!

Right the truth.....:D

My1st flight with my new bird was perfect, couldn't ask for anything else.
I had it set at "beginners mode" was would only go 30 mtr high/distance. The weather was perfect for flying, sunny with a slight breeze. Ran two batteries through it, perfect just perfect;)

I had so many poeple come up to me & asked loads of questions so a lot of the time it was just hovering:(.

Here ya go, a few photos of my inspire:) enjoy.... I did;)
