Water spout. Short lived and went back up just after the pics. Never know if it's going to come back down though. Just a small popcorn storm.

When I lived in NC and stayed on the coast we would see em sometimes but I was youg then and really didn't know what they where !
Never seen one that close to shore though
We always be out at the gulf stream when we would see em and that ways a way out from the Outer Banks .

I have a pic I took of a huge one in the same place a couple of years ago. I'll post it tomorrow. They were about a mile away, over a big bayou. That's looking north in the pic, not west, out to the gulf. Glad it wasn't coming up my canal. Unless of course it didn't do any damage.

try living West of Chicago and thenSouth.... Use to catch Tornado's every year or so... Plainfield Ill was a true Tornado sucker... no warning, just hit ya like a freight train,

Now in NC we have the "canes', slow, building, sustaining - like right before ya get a root canal at your favorite dentist...

BTW - beauty of a day here, ~ 85F. We sent the heat down to Dirk where it belongs.

We tend to get a few water spouts out on Lake Ontario near our shores. I have a photographer friend who lives on the shoreline who gets fantastic pics of spouts and lightning. I miss living on the shore.

STUNNING photo's!
Fantastic use of HDR, looks almost like paintings. His father's had quite a career too! What kind of equipment does he use? Thanks for sharing.

Cracking pics 009 last year while at work we had storms hitting us from all directions. Started to see a funnel cloud develop but by the time I put me phone up to get that picture, it had gone gone within a couple of seconds
