I want a weather station setup

Right you lot;)

An anemometer should be 10 metres high to get accurate wind readings, met office recommendations;)
Must be positioned away from tress, buildings to stop wind turbulence.
Yeah that's in an ideal world... But you've gotta make do with what & where you can;)

Must remember the Davis Vue is one unit, anemometer/rain bucket/temp sensor soooooo you would need to get a happy medium.

With my setup I do have the option to adjust the height of the windy thing (anemometer) but you can't with the Vue.

Just place it in your field, get the best spot away from trees & put it at what height you thinks best;)

Just my 2 cents worth.
Right on there slim o_O..:D

What a difference a day makes, where did that saying come from...
Some smart bottom will tell;)

All week we've had hot sunny days but very windy
Today it been overcast with light drizzle but temp in the late teens:(

This will stir someone up..... Good old climate change:eek:

I have a question for you Porky. Would it be better to have it positioned higher vs. lower? I see some just 4 feet off the ground and others higher. Since mine is all-in-one is is bad to have the temp/rain sensors to high up? I could mount it on an extending pole and raise it up when in use. Maybe I will look into how much sway it would have as the pole is aluminum.

PS - why not list your weather web page in your profile?

TJ, what diameter is your pole? I was using an old telescoping outrigger pole on my old anemometer but not sure if it will work on the Vue. It's aluminum too.

I would think higher would be better for accurate wind, shouldn't matter for rain. I don't know that a few feet is going to make much of a difference.

It all depends on what your gonna mount the weather station to. The reason why you have your weather station at about 1.5 metres is because it's the average height people can relate to the temp. Tooooo high like 10 metres up would be much different than 1.5 metres ground level.

I would have to agree with 009 on the height, just as long as it's not too high;)

My windy thing (anemometer) is 30ft up on an aluminium pole attached to the side of my house but it does sway in strong winds, if it didn't it would snap...

You will always have sway problems but if you use a decent pole it would reduce that.

My weather station (iss) is also on an aluminium pole which again does have some movement.

Sooooo put it up a little higher on a good pole & don't worry to much about sway as long as it's not too bad;) my thoughts anyway;)

Remember you station Is for personal use & if you want to share with others on the net they will not ask about height, sway etc.... Mines not perfect but I'm happy with how it performs;)

Good idea about putting my webpage in my profile, didn't think of that:)

Got mine set up yesterday. The station is right at 30' and is clear of the palms (for now) and just higher than the roof peak. I'll get some turbulence from the house depending on the wind direction but it will work. It's a few feet higher than where I had my old one. Really like the wireless.

Nice one 009, all working ok? If you find your iss moves a lot in the wind you could also think of guy lines;)

Thanks Porky. Yep, everything is working fine. No rain to test that yet but we usually get some in the afternoon so it won't be long. The pole is a top railing from a chain link fence, 10', galvanized. There is a little movement if I push it but not much. I'll see what the wind does when we get some good gusts and go from there. I think it's going to be fine. It's certainly better than my old aluminum outrigger pole.

Do you know if there is an app I could put on my ipad to be able to see Weather Link Bulletin Page instead of the web page.

Searched the app store but don't see one.

I'm not 100% sure, I dont use any apps only my web site;) only thing I would recommend is having a search in the app store, might be lucky;)

Are you sharing your data yet or is it just for personal use?

I looked on Davis' website and the App Store but came up empty.

It should be out there, I didn't make it private. Not sure how you look at it. Station name is Hudson FL.
