I want a weather station setup

Need to get the anemometer up in the air if you can and as mentioned above it will tip in a bucket. If it tips you are going to be in big trouble.

I have mine on a 8' 4x4 treated post. I have a 1 1/4" piece of conduit strapped to that for the anemometer. The post is 2' in the ground in concrete and the conduit is 9' above post. So total height of structure is 15'. For my location that is about the minimum. I really don't get the most accurate wind reading even with that.

Copied from post #12 by Clampit.

"This photo gives you an idea of where you should position you're weather station Should be over a grass lawn but NOT positioned over concrete, ideal height, 5 ft above ground.;)"

I guess this applies in a "Perfect World", but we do what we can.

Just went out and snapped a couple shots.

You can also see distance from house/console on one shot.

This works well for me except anemometer could have been higher.

The National Weather Service in Binghamton has issued a
* Tornado Warning for...
southeastern Onondaga County in central New York...
southwestern Madison County in central New York...
northern Cortland County in central New York...
northwestern Chenango County in central New York...
east central Cayuga County in central New York...
* until 415 PM EDT

:eek:
Yes sir! My phone has been alerting all day between the NWS and the apps I have. I am in Cayuga County right near the line for Cortland County. It was strange before... windy all morning but around the time the warnings started it got deathly calm. No air movement at all, which is not common here due to geography. It is plenty windy again now though. Barometer is at 28.05 if it is reading right. I have to see if there is a graph for the barometer.

OK, even though I don't have a permanent solution as of yet I put it on a pole about 11' up strapped to the corner of my deck. I know the readings won't be true but I am getting readings on the console! :)
I think I may have a lemon... the wind cups have resistance and a squeak or squeal at low speeds and will actually stop when it is still breezy.

The barometer is dropping and I checked radar and I am on the edge of the front right now. I better go make sure all the hatches are battened down! Looks like Ill be testing the rain gauge soon! Lots of thunder.

Here comes the rain! Haha, the console says it's raining cats & dogs! LOL

Had to roll in the awning, thought it was gonna rip right off! Tree branches are falling all over the place. Had a 12 foot long limb land right on my deck! Crazy! Whoo hoo! what a a ride!

Good luck man, sounds nasty.
Maybe you'll break in the anemometer. If not, another reason I like Prime.

Just took my Weather Wizard III down. My daughter just moved to Austin and she wants it. :cool:

Well we made it through safe & sound. Lots of cleanup to be done from limbs. My wife was returning from the store and came upon a truck that ran over a limb that fell in his path and spiked it into the undercarriage and he was stuck there waiting for assistance.
The weather has certainly been changing for there worse over the years. It was fun watching the console as the data flowed in.
I think I have decided on a 4x4 post with a pipe on top for mounting. Not sure how I will secure the post yet. Still mulling that over.

I must be losing it. I just saw this pop up the other day but never looked at the date. Sorry about that, please disregard. I'm gonna go take my meds now. :confused:

Right you lot;)

An anemometer should be 10 metres high to get accurate wind readings, met office recommendations;)
Must be positioned away from tress, buildings to stop wind turbulence.
Yeah that's in an ideal world... But you've gotta make do with what & where you can;)

Must remember the Davis Vue is one unit, anemometer/rain bucket/temp sensor soooooo you would need to get a happy medium.

With my setup I do have the option to adjust the height of the windy thing (anemometer) but you can't with the Vue.

Just place it in your field, get the best spot away from trees & put it at what height you thinks best;)

Just my 2 pences worth.
