Replacement battery for P3A controller?

you would either have to wire the board back onto the replacement battery
or as you say exit the balance lead out from the remote controller and use a normal

Yes --- correct and to be honest ... given that the charge procedure of DJI terminates charge before full balance charge achieved ... I would be inclined to find a way of balance charging the battery without using the controller ....

You can buy balance lead only chargers - many RTF models come with them. They charge 2 and 3S packs but are slow. I have two of them for charging some of my Rx battery's in models.

Hi Nigel, I like you and many others have had the controller not charging issue ... this man is way ahead of most people and has shown how you can use a standard LIPO to power the controller. My first step was to purchase a replacement battery from ebay and try that .. it didn't work ! as the controller would only charge to 3 lights as before .... so that mean tthat the controller is f*cked. I have since purchased another controller from the US for $80 which works and have sent the original back to DJI for repair. My next step is to add an external lipo battery to the controller so I can use multiple batteries and also add a good range extender whilst I have it apart ...when I have it all working I might push out a video !

the controller you have bought from usa would be classed as a grey
import. they are on fcc mode, and not caa mode UK approved because the USA use FCC controllers
and they have a stronger output signal than the uk CAA controllers
hope i don't fly next to you as you could blow my drone out the sky using a stronger output signal
from your controller
i had this happen to me once standing near a grey import even though it was on 2.4g
and i was on 2.4g my model went out of control straight into the ground

and they have a stronger output signal than the uk CAA controllers

The FCC / CE modes are automatically set by your location as determined by GPS.

Thanks for the update .. I will look into this more and make sure I am not around anyone else if that is the case .. I don't want to be crashing some else's drone !

Ignore what fender37 said, as its utter nonsense. As Oso has already pointed out - it is the GPS location of the RC / AC, which switches in FCC or CE mode; the controllers are identical globally.

FCC/CE is auto set depending on the current location reported by the Phantom's internal GPS receiver.

Well, yes that's true, but you then went onto say....

this is what i read on another forum
My questions:
1. Is there possibility to switch from CE to FCC mode or vise versa or should i sell my current EU model and buy FCC version (in US?)
2. How should i determine when i am buying FCC version. I do not want to buy EU version again.
3. What should I do when i buy and FCC version and i got a contract in Europe, how to switch from FCC to CE to not break a EU law?

And DJI answers:
1. Yes, only way is purchase another drone.
2. We suggest you can purchase from a USA dealer or DJI store and remark you need a FCC version.
It will tell the version on the packing box.
3. No access to switch the version. In theory,yes, it will breaks the local law.

You can't change from CE to FCC because it's a legal requirement for the importers to comply with CE regs.
so the person with the controller purchased from the usa, would be better getting in touch with DJI
and clearing it up with them regards it's use in the uk .

That's incorrect. Everyone is using the same remote controller since there isn't a separate FCC/CE version of the remote controller.

While all of my Phantom boxes are marked as the US model (since I live in the US and require a type A/B power plug), all of my boxes and remote controllers have both FCC and CE symbols on them.

Hi everyone .. its been a while ! Happy New Year to you all, I hope your flying has been going well.

OK .. an update on my controller not charging and replacement battery issue.
Summary ... my controller would not go past the second/third light when charging regardless of how much it was used or left on charge. I would have to keep putting it on charge after the charge lights went out , this would take forever ... eventually getting it up to 50-60%.
My first move was to purchase a used battery for the controller (Phantom3 PRO version) which I found in the US ... fairly cheap and from a DJI store ... which I received no problem, installed and started the process again. BUT no luck ... same issue ! So it was not a battery problem.
At this stage I was thinking about trying a new battery as the DJI one uses a chip and I wanted to move away from that .... but I decided to go the proper route and return to DJI.

Luckily the controller was within the initial year return period .... I took it down to Maplins and they sent it back.

Also .. I didn't want to be without a controller and was not sure what DJI would do ... so I purchased another controller .. again from the US and at a very good price.
The controller was received after a week .... no issues and fully functional. It charges up as it should and also charged up the second battery. The controller works as expected .. I don't see any difference from the original I had ... so I don't have any issues at the moment.

And ... I also received a brand new controller from DJI .. so lucked out all around so far for not a big cost.
I might sell the new controller on EBAY or keep for a while .. not sure yet.

As DJI are holding us all to ransom with regards to using specialised batteries I am still considering adding an external generic battery to the controller .. as shown on google (use google to locate the American dude who shows you how). I dislike this approach by companies ... Apple use the same mentality ! but as things are working ok I will leave that for another day.
