For purposes of viewing on YouTube, I don't see any appreciable difference between recording at 1080p and recording in 4K.

It's difficult to see the quality on a 720p YouTube stream. Any idea why it isn't 1080p60 on YouTube as well?

That's because I exported the video from my video editor in 720p. Next time I'll know to export in 1080p or better, which is what I usually have done previously. I was just looking to save upload time but I went too far.
 
Here's part of the same footage as in the first post, but exported in 1080p instead of 720p. Quite a big difference in clarity. If you've got a big enough screen or good enough eyes, you can see a couple of birds circling below the drone at about 0:20, and another bird at about 0:52 to 0:59. This video is at 2x actual speed instead of 3x in a possibly unnecessary effort to make sure that YouTube's software didn't think I was uploading the same video twice.
