On the fence about the Litchi app

Go forward with confidence! I was grounded for 6 weeks because of our IMC weather conditions... gave me time to learn how to use it. Yesterday I went out and flew for truly the first time since I've been an owner, and that flight was with Litchi. It was awesome! I've been smiling all day 
and the video, though not perfect is almost ready. The mistakes made were my own relating to getting the angles right on the Points Of Interest -- but... I wasn't far off the mark, and can't wait to re-fly to see if I got it right this time.

I started with litchi, have never used GO, ive only had 5 flights so far, never had a single issue with it, smooth even on my crappy Lenovo A8.

The Litchi app is good but the Go app is all most pilots ever need.
Use Litchi if you are going to use the additional specialised features it has.

That's exactly right. I use Litchi for pre-programmed waypoint flights and a couple of other of its features. If I'm not using these, I fly with DJI Go.

Preprogrammed waypoint missions are the reason for this app. It's intuitive, easy, accurate and will continue to fly the mission if radio contact is broken. I love it!

I downloaded litchi the other day and flew one flight with it.
Gotta love the return policy on the google play store, saved me 25 bucks.
It's fine, but the video quality wasn't as good as the GO app, and so far I haven't needed any of the extra features. (the ones I tried seemed spotty at best, like tracking)
I'm sure eventually I'll download it again, but if you aren't missing the waypoints feature (without flying it first) then there's no reason to waste 25 bucks IMHO

The Litchi app will not affect the video quality in the least. If you've been using the video from your mobile device itself, you're doing it wrong.
It should come off the microSD stored on the drone itself. That video will be the same regardless of what controller app you use. The stuff on your mobile device is absolutely lower quality than the drone-stored footage.If you're talking about the live FPV stream, the Litchi app has a bitrate chooser for that, which the GO app doesn't have. You probably just need to bump the downlink bitrate a bit.
I used DJIGO for a few weeks and moved over to Litchi and really enjoy it. There is only one thing I miss on the DJIGO app is the ability to record your flight (in low def) in real time to your tablet. I may fire up DJIGO every once and a while.

I was talking about FPV, and you're probably right I didn't mess with the bitrate!
An app like Litchi is really designed for other uses that simple FPV use. For that, GO will work just fine. Being that the P3 is really, at its core, a flying camera on a tripod, the ability to pre-program in flights with complex movements, multiple POIs, etc., is where this app shines. Having the repeatability of said flight so that flight paths can be tweaked after reviewing the footage and/or the ability to fly the exact same path over and over if shooting a specific scene is great. The smoothness of complex maneuvers coupled with the exact repeatability is something that a human pilot simply can not reproduce. So if you are into making videos rather than FPV, give Litchi a try. You won't be dissapointed.
I have it as well. I like both. I find that Autopilot has more options, works very well, but has a bit of a steeper learning curve that Litchi does. I love the online flight planner that Litchi has. I find it a bit easier to plan missions that way. I might feel differently if I was planning missions on an iPad rather than my iPhone 6s+.
So, I like having both. Litchi for waypoint, autonomous missions that fly without user input, Autopilot for more intense, VLOS work where I want to control everything down to the Nth degree.

I'm curious as to why you bought it and then made them give you your money back? You knew what it was for, right?

I think I'm leaning towards Autopilot. I know I'll eventually have both but for now I need to choose one.

I will say this...Autopilot has a steeper learning curve. I like both, but if this is your first program for autonomous flight, and your a relatively new pilot, I think Litchi is an easier program to learn.
First, go to Autopilot's web site, read through the ground school docs and watch all the videos. Repeat a time or two.
AP's strength is that they have written their own flight controller. As long as you are not going to fly autonomous missions, the custom flight controller has a ton of features. It is, in my mind, designed around professional filming needs. Trying to go through them here would be pointless. Go through the AP ground school. Watch their videos. That should answer 99% of your questions. Its very thorough.

I love the Litchi App, for me is works great. I've done a bunch of missions, it can't be any easier to use. The only thing I have asked the company to do is to be able to make the speed different at each waypoint
