Flight location ideas ~Michigan~

I live in Michigan near the water so I am defiantly taking advantage of flight along there. I'm just curious to see where everyone is flying? I know state parks are effy. I'm excited for the leaves to change color, plus snow gives our photos and videos a new flavor.

I do need to get up to the blue water bridge, although no too close? International border.

Belle Isle is a cool place, flew there for hours and then preceded to go near the RenCen building where my wife works. I was getting the quad ready for takeoff and the Riverfront security, border patrol, and then near the end, RenCen police showed up. You are not to take off near the riverfront, but can do whatever you want on Belle Isle is what I was told.
Border patrols are worried about the drone use for drug deliveries to and from Canada.
Belle Isle is owned by the state now so different rules. I great watching the huge freighters going by. Once I get the guts, I'm gonna do some filming of the Ambassador Bridge. You can pretty much reach anywhere from the Belle, but watch what you fly near. Weekdays are good days to fly, weekends get flooded by locals and the huge cookouts. I don't see any security or police present, but feel pretty much secure since I always carry my gun. So far, a pleasant experience for anyone wondering of a safe place in the city to fly.

RenCen "police" hehe, renta cops just like "riverfront security" - no authority except to tell you not to take off or land on the property directly behind the ren cen that GM owns.
Just walk a bit further N or S and off you go.
Or go to the top level of the attached parking structure ($5) and get a high level unobstructed view of the entire area.
Can fly all the way to the ambassador bridge from there, but better to go to the little park just south of ambassador.

When I asked asked the collage of badges, the river walk guys said something about S of the bridge is where I can be too. Didn't know about the parking structure, even though I stared off towards the casino parking ( too many cameras), and I didn't want to piss off the RenCen guys in fear of getting my wife in trouble. I do recall driving south past Cobo Hall, but noticed life expectancy levels dropping every 1/10 of a mile, so I headed back to the Belle. I parked and started up my bird ( Yuneec 500k+ at the time) and realized it was a bit too windy that day and left.
I did call state police and asked why I could fly my bird on Belle isle ( which is half way to Canada and not near the land edge and he kinda heed and hawed. He then kinda told me to just ask a LEO on the island and I have yet to come across any. I only flew when I did because of how empty the place was and used my own judgement until told otherwise. I even ripped through some of the inside roads like I was in the Detroit GP after going around every road there looking for Leo's.
My next return trip, I'd like to take some vids of the vacant and overgrown zoo there. It looks like what happened at Jurassic Park lol.

Wouldn't mind meeting like hobby people. I feel alienated flying sometimes because the public don't understand them. I'm up in the U. P. In Michigan /Wisconsin border this weekend trying to find some quiet time with Motorhome,wife, dog, and of course, drone. Already 45 at night up here. Parked for the night along a stretch of beach right now getting some fresh water air.....

I'm about 20 minutes from Macomb Community College Center campus! Not to far. Just have to watch out for Selfridge near there.

when you fly belle isle do you just simply notify COLEMAN A YOUNG MUNICIPAL airport? Also where do you take off and land... I have found a few parks that are not in a notification zone BUT they specify no DRONE usage I checked that site above and noticed some fly around Selfridge by metro beach.... Does ANG really allow drone fights there??

stoney creek and other places that aren't in the 5mile, do you stay off site and then fly over?

I am very new to this and totally confused about the confinements of flying. We are heading up to boyne middle of November and was thinking about flying but there are at least 4 airports all around there...

There are few of us that went and fgot a remote pilot license from the FAA which allows us to fly near airports with permission, fly for a business and among other things.
I'm going to assume that you are just a hobbyist. One of the tool I use for planning flights for my business is
AirMap.io All you have to do is put a address in of where you want to fly and check the side of the tool bar that says recreational 5 mile radius and your set to know where you can fly. Oh! they also have an app.

So to fly on belle Isle you need to get your remote pilot license? or can I simply just call the Coleman Airport and notify them? I am more concerned about the parks being "clear" radius wise, but then they have restrictions themselves in place. If I launch and land outside of park (aka stoney creek) can I still fly over it?

That's a great birthday present! Yes to fly in any controlled airspace you need a remote pilots license. But not is all lost on belle Isle, there is a part that technically available for all to fly. But it being that close to a very large airport, I would still call. I would also get a lot of practice in because not only is Coleman international airport but your very close to a international border.

Safe as long as your not in any of the shaded areas including yellow.

So I am curious since I am now flying on the St Clir river near Marine City.... 1000 foot off shore is the Canadian border (middle of the river).... Can I fly into the air above the Canadian portion of the river? BTW I am a commercial pilot.

In Michigan there are state parks (state rules) and Metro Parks (Metro Park Rules). Metro Parks do not allow any UAV flights drove or plane.

You face tickets, fines, and confiscation of your equipment though they officers generally just tell you to stop.

Metro Beach AND Belle Isle are all Metro Parks.

I would assume not, specially since Canada is getting really strict on their drone laws
The best part about Marine City and the water is catching the freighters, they always make for get pictures and video
