This is for those who resides in the USA. Well this can ground a lot of uav operators with current equipment that dose not have ads-b. Worst case most all current uav owner must purchase brand new hardware to continue to fly and most pre 2020 equipment becomes pure paper weight. Not an expert but in reviewing the requirement I came across this:

“This final rule prescribes ADS–B Out performance requirements for all aircraft operating in Class A, B, and C airspace within the NAS; above the ceiling and within the lateral boundaries of a Class B or Class C airspace area up to 10,000 feet mean sea level (MSL); and Class E airspace areas at or above 10,000 feet MSL over the 48 contiguous United States and the District of Columbia, excluding the airspace at and below 2,500 feet above the surface"

Note the last 11words.

That doesn't apply to "Our" sUAS but it will apply to some larger "waivered" UAS that do operate at those levels.

I'm not saying it's never going to happen but, as of right now that does NOT apply to us.

That was from 2010. If you read some of the points made by commenters to the document, there are many who oppose certain parameters being suggested.

This discussion has a long way to go yet.

For those of you with ‘Google Earth’ on your device, our friends at the FAA have made it a bit easier to determine what ADS -B area you fly in.

Download the 2020 Equip ADS-B Google Earth Map. (Available on the FAA site, FAA.gov - Equip ADS-B Airspace) From there you can scan around your area, zoom in and out, or preview a proposed future flight area, to see if ADS -B is or will be required.

Generally, the closer to A,B,C and D airspace you are, the more limitations there will be. Class E will be relatively unaffected up to 2500 feet AGL. But, subject to change as always. You know how finicky our buds at the FAA can be.

Note : you MUST have Google Earth on your device for this download to work. It will NOT work with Google Maps only.
