Encounter With Canadian Geese...

Had an interesting flight yesterday morning... Just a leisurely flight with the video recording and started back and was almost to the landing spot when I heard some geese honking.... was down between some trees when I stopped but they decided to fly between them from behind my drone. Check out my facebook post for the video and some frame captures showing the almost catastrophic encounter.

Wow! They got close! It seems though that they were not interested in your drone, just to fly on by. We have several, (50) that stay around here year round and nest on some of our islands in our small lake in the back yard. Other than making a mess they are funny and interesting to watch. I flew over they several times at about 50 feet and they quickly ran into the water and stayed there. They seemed alarmed that something strange was approaching but showed no interest otherwise. I will certainly keep a lookout for them if they fly close to my Phantom! A hit from one of these large birds would almost certainly doom my drone and possibly hurt the goose. Thanks for your posting and your alert. It will be heeded here!

Very cool! I had a similar encounter, but with turkey buzzards. Somewhere in the middle. It was pretty heart-stopping praying they didn't clip a prop and send it down!
