Do you know which one is needed for 27" iMac retina late 2014? I have room for 2 X 8GB each

4K simple
How's the performance of your build to edit and render 4K videos? I like the choices you made...
Roughly $1500 , plus $500 for a Dell 27" 4k Monitor, the P2715Q.I know I am being lazy, but what was the total cost? I knew this 4k video would be my downfall....
What exactly are you asking?
iMovie does 4k as well, very good actually.
It absolutely shredds through 4k, smooth as butter. Even with 10 other programs open in the background it doesnt even twitch.

Endurance, I want to add additional storage. It displays here I have the room.![]()

I can't open 4K files from my hero 4 in iMovie but I can in FCP. But if others can it might be my installation![]()
I just got FCPX and had a bit of fun messing around with effects and transitions on this clip... I should say this vid was purely for that purpose!!
I use PowerDirector for this and many other video tasks. It works pretty well. More important is to have a really fast machine with full RAM memory capacity and several drives. Also the best video card with hardware acceleration you can afford. It is also good to not have that machine on the internet doing other tasks like polling for updates or sending you facebook posts while you are trying to work. Before rendering I often close all outside connections and eliminate my machine polling for stuff. The you optimize for through put dividing up the load on the drives. While I have the OS and paging file on one drive work data is on others. For instance I might draw from one large drive, process and write out to a Ram memory SSD drive. People sometimes fail to grasp is that just managing the raw data can take a lot of time. I have several three terrabite drives for storage of bulk video. They are relatively cheap. Interestingly enough in actual use it takes just as long to move files around as it does to edit them. So if you have a huge video and want to move it you will be waiting for a while instead of editing. I guess you could call this file thrashing. After you edit it takes the same amount of tie to write out the "produced" product as it would to copy the file. So a serious video editor will find a lot of his time and effort in simply managing the raw data for several projects which all have a way of being required at the same time. At some point I suppose in a bigger operator one has to consider several machines and moving from"desk" to desk to keep the work flow up and not become "input/output bound".What do you chaps use to edit and view your 4k videos?
Thanks in advance.
That is not an unusual situation. The fact is the computer is polling for a lot more sources of processing tasks than the phone. Its funny my little Samsung 6 phone runs the videos back far better than my computer. I suppose the screen is small in comparison, but its still annoying.
