Does anyone know if a range finder will help

I have a DJI phantom 3S and when I fly over 150Ft I lose RC signal and it Auto RTH will a range finder help with this problem?

That in my opinion is not a normal range for the P3s. Of course, a lot of factors are at play.
Where are you flying? (i.e. Congested downtown NY in between sky scrapers, Wide open Idaho Potato farm fields,etc)
What is Firmware version on your drone?
Antenna orientation to that of the drone?

My P3S with v 1.7.9 FW will get at least 700m in an open field without any mods. I get well over 1Km in the same location using a cheap windsurfer antenna (You can make your own or buy one for about $10)

I don't leave near any big buildings and I have the same FW as you but I know others have had this problem
