It will take years for any new model to compete with DJI because they have to prove themselves with consumers, retailers, distributors and everyone else. At best they can start chipping away with a % or 2 of the sales. Keep in mind that 1% of DJI sales may be 12,000+ units in 2016. So a company that gets 3% may have enough to continue in business. Still, they are not going to have the economy of scale of DJI so that makes it difficult to compete. The best course of action for new drone companies would be to somehow work around DJI - provide something that DJI is not.
