Compass won't calibrate

When I go to calibrate the compass before flying I can calibrate the compass horizontally 360 and the lights turn green that's fine
but when I go to calibrate the compass 360 vertically it doesn't work and the lights turn red
so I tried again and it still wont calibrate vertically

I've tried going to other locations but the same thing happens what am I doing wrong here?
could there be an issue with the p4?

make sure the front of it faces down as you do the vertical calibration, not up.
