That is how mine came home from the shipping depot.

So I'm embarking on this adventure for carrying mine. I ride a Yamaha FJR.

Originally I bought the backpack with the intent of carrying it while riding. But then I got to thinking that I have the top box for a reason. I checked it out, and the Phantom can fit in it. So I got to work. A trip to Hobby Lobby and a package of soft foam. This is what I cam up with.

I built it with 1 inch layers. The top box is tapered towards the bottom so the layers allowed me to work my way up, using the most space possible. But I worried about it bouncing out. So I bought a Yamaha brand bag for the top box that zips up. I cut another foam piece that sits on top and then I zip the bag up.

I haven't cut out the sections for the batteries or the remote yet because I'm attempting Version 2.0 now. It was apparent early on that the white foam would get dirty real quick and look bad. I couldn't find foam in any other color that soft. The charcoal foam I found online was much more expensive.
I took a sample piece of foam and dyed it black. Turned out OK, so I started over. My first attempt, I tried to cut the hole for my P3 each layer as I worked up. It didn't work out as well as I'd hoped. This time around, I plan on building the block first and then cutting out the necessary areas. I dyed 12 layers worth last night. I only need about 8, but I wanted some spares.
I'll do a full write-up when I'm finished. That is if it turns out halfway decent.
All of it. Besides, real men ride hard-tails in the Iron Butt Rally. It's in the scriptures. What part do you think I am not serious about Richard? This taken during the 2011 Iron Butt Rally.

Yer a funny guy Richard. I've been part of the Iron Butt Association since 1997. I'm not aware of any rider that completed the Iron Butt Rally - and I know you know, that's 11,000 miles in 11 days - on a hardtail Harley. I DO know two riders, Former Senator Dave Zien from WI is one, that has ridden a Saddlesore on a hardtail - and a million miles on a 91 FXRT. Can't remember the second guy.
If you know someone that has finished the IBR on a hardtail - I'd like to know who that Real Man is - and what page and verse I can find his name in the scriptures...![]()
Oh I got that - you must have missed the smiley in my comment. You also must have missed the vent hose coming out of the aux fuel cell behind the saddle. Yer not a very observant kinda guy are you?...It was supposed to be funny. Lighten up ! Incidentally, with all that stuff attached to your bike you'd think one of the containers would have gas in it. I wouldn't even ride If I had to put all that crap on my bike and dress like that every time I got on it. For me riding is about relaxation. The ability too throw my phantom on the back of my bike and take off wherever/whenever I want is a HUGE bonus to riding. If I need to travel 11,000 miles I'll drive my S500.

Motorcycling is a different strokes for different folks. I happen to seriously enjoy putting on all that crap for a fun and comfortable ride across the U.S. to have coffee. Others get burned out riding 20 miles to the next town. Nothing wrong with flower sniffing on a bike - just doesn't work for me.
If I want to go motorcycling, I go motorcycling without distractions [other than morons behind the wheel].
If I want to go flying my P3P, I hop in the truck and drive to where I want to fly.![]()
I know. What you're missing is, I WAS looking for gas at that bonus location, I'd already ridden 436 miles between fuel stops to get there [checked my fuel log for the ride]. Even a fuel cell can't get much more than that....I'm more observant than you might guess. Take a look at the title of the photo you shared with us.

Oh hell no. I landed right in the middle of the pack [of finishers] I really didn't start riding points until after the first leg and had a premature rear tire failure at the absolute worst time and location - costing me 10 hours of waiting to get it taken care of. Which BTW, was a giant screw-up for me because my head wasn't screwed on tight enough to call a friend - in Co Spgs - where I was in the friggin hotel - to just borrow his rear wheel. That happened 9 days into the ride - plays with your head a lot at that point.Did you win ?
Do you have a "frunk" liner? I can barely fit my helmet in there.I ride a Spyder and put all componets in the front trunk. I also hike and use a Viahero back harness to carry Phantom 3
Still a lot of those Magna's around. 9 years ago I had an 1984 1100
I sling the original hardcase on my back and ride on my vintage Honda Magna. Two hobbies simultaneous.
So I'm embarking on this adventure for carrying mine. I ride a Yamaha FJR.
