Wind surfer tablet.

Has anyone tried putting a sheet of copper behind their tablet? I'm curious if that would help the signal at all maybe not be so directional like the clip on wind surfers..

Just tossing ideas while I starve.

I was just thinking about this while flying yesterday. I think the back of my Ipad Air 2 is already metal, and pretty much parallel with the antennas.

It is the curvature of the windsurfers that concentrate the signal forward to more of a point. The stock antennas are already a flat panel antenna. You can pull the white sleeve off of the antennas to see what I am talking about.

No, they are not. There is just a wire inside the plastic. They are simple vertical dipoles.

Like I said, it's just a wire. The plastic insert is just that, a piece of plastic. Again, this is an omni-directional simple dipole.

Nope, it's not a wire. It's a PC board.
Have a look at the pictures or pull your cover off. It's pretty easy to do.

It's not plastic by the way. If I scratch off some of the black coating, there is a copper trace there.

I was expecting a wire also. No wonder the range is so good with the stock antenna.

Even if it helps a little it may be worth it my tablet is dedicated to flights so no loss of space or something to take off before storage..
