Why do I have to activate the drone

Hi,

What does that really mean?

What happens when I do that ? DJI gets notified that a drone with a serial number ### is in use?
If I format the SD card on my mainboard, will I be asked again to activate the drone?
If I replace the entire mainboard, will I be asked again?

the right questions is :

where are the aircrafts information saved? on the SD card on the mainboard or on the mainboard somewhere ? (where)

My guess is that the activation is in the firmware. Probably a software 'switch' that has to be flipped in order for the motors to turn on. If the firmware is stored on the main board, then you probably would have to activate it again if you swapped I a new board.

I don't understand Richard - sorry.

If I swap mainboards in two different phantom 3 drones - will I be asked again to activate the drone ?
