I once had the phantom powered on, sitting on my desk with the lock still attached while I was exploring the Assistant software. I'll bet it sat there like that for 10 minutes until I realized. By that time the gimbal motors were all but smoking. There is no damage as far as I can tell. Very stupid on my part but I would bet that I'm not the only one who's ever done that. It would be nice if the gimbal shut itself down if it is powered on and the lock is attached for more than a minute or so.
