I had this issue back in 2019. Posted the solution in this thread - Maps not showing on Pro Plus remote? Here's the fix!
That was 5 years ago.
Since then, I bought a standard Phantom 4 controller, the GL300F and really haven't used the Plus GL300E.
There were app compatibility issues back then and I needed the drone in the air to start / complete a 2 year construction project.
Purchasing a GL300F and iPad made for an easy workaround.
Over the years, I'd occasionally pull out the GL300E to check battery charge try and keep it updated.
Somewhere in that time-frame, during a firmware update attempt, maps (MapBox) went away again.

Fast forward to last week. when I'd read few current threads on the site mentioning difficulty with MapBox. Piqued my interest so I tried again.

Long and short ..... With the help from members Emptech and DJI82 on the DJI website forum, I was able to complete the update and got maps working again.
Emptech (Jim) suggested putting the "Update.zip" file on a SD card without extracting the files. Huge credit goes to him! DJI82 hosts the Update file. DJI hosts the firmware on their site,

Link to Firmware 1.04.03 update - GL300E_v1430_20200519 Click "Firmware" at the top of the screen
Download the file. Then extract the firmware package, and copy the extracted file (GL300E_RC_xxx.bin) to a freshly formatted Micro SD card.
Link to "Update.zip" file - Phantom 4 Pro Plus (GL300E) Update.zip file

Download the file. Then DO NOT, repeat DO NOT extract files. Copy the Update.zip file directly to the same Micro SD card.

Turn on your controller and make sure it automatically connects to your home WiFi. Turn controller off.

Insert the SD card into the port on the back of the GL300E.
Turn on the controller on, wait for the update to complete.

With fingers crossed. You may now have the latest DJI Go 4 software for V1 4.3.54, latest 1.04.03 firmware, and maps.

Pretty sure I was prompted one more time, asking if I wanted to install the latest FlySafe Database update. I assumed this is update that removes GEO locking.
I clicked yes and the update completed without issue.

OpenStreetMap (opposed to MapBox) is what I'm seeing onscreen for DJI's new maps provider.

Very happy to have this controller up and running. I forgot how bright and crisp the screen is.
Hope this helps! Enjoy!

Hello, I have also used the file from Emtech and srely it works. From Holland, Jim thanks a lot.
Good to read another P4p+V1 user made it happen.
Do you remember with Firmware you were on before running the Update.zip file?

Mine was stuck on 1.04.01. I couldn't get the firmware to complete the update from 1.04.01 to 1.04.03.
Not until I put SD card with the unzipped 1.04.03 firmware and zipped Update.zip file did the magic happen.

Just trying to help others that might have been in that boat.

Not sure how to answer this.
Is the controller working and do you have maps? May want to leave as is if all is well.
If everything does work, are you geo locked when in a NFZ?
I'm assuming you are in the US, your profile or info under the message icon does not show location.

Great news! Happy to help. Very welcome! It's so nice to go from an expensive paper weight to a working controller!

I don't know. I have on the SD Card a file and every time I turn on the controller I had to install this file and the maps were working. But this solution is a lot better.

Sounds like you've applied the fix and the solution is working for you.. Good to hear.
Also see you've updated your profile to include location in the Netherlands.

Hi CR125Honda,
Thanks — it worked! I'm using a Phantom 4 Pro Plus and everything is going great so far.
I have two questions:
  1. Is it possible to use an external iPad or Android tablet with the GL300E remote controller?
  2. Do you know if it's possible to fly the Phantom 4 Pro Plus using another controller from the GL300 series (like the GL300A, B, or C)?

I'm interested in doing photogrammetry, so I would like to use Litchi or another app that allows waypoint flight planning. Thanks in advance!

Glad that's working out on the Pro for you.
There is an HDMI port on the back of the controller to hook up to a monitor.
Don't know if use can use or if there is an adapter cord for HDMI to iPad or Tablet.

I bought a GL300F many years ago to use with my 4 Pro. Back then, there was an issue with app compatibility.
Was easier just to buy the GL300F and an iPad to make things happen.
Not 100 percent on this but I think Litchi, and some other apps load and are now working fine on the Pro Plus controller.
Few (and am flying) that combo for many years.
Wasn't til recently (after I got the Maps working again) that I brought the GL300F controller back online.
Though the screen is small, it's brightness has it's advantages.
The actual drones used for the Phantom 4 Pro Plus and Phantom 4 Pro are the same. The controller is/was the only difference.

Post a note here when you load Litchi and any other apps on the GL300E (Plus) to let us know if you have any issues.

After a long night of troubleshooting I managed to get some apps working on the GL300E controller (Android 5.1.1) of my Phantom 4 Pro Plus. I haven’t flown yet, but so far:

I successfully installed the following APKs:
  • Litchi 4.0.2
  • Pix4Dcapture 4.5.0
  • Pix4D +Control (latest available version)
These versions seem to work with Android 5.1.1 on the built-in screen of the controller.

My plan is to test flight functionality in the coming days and will report back here.
I will follow this general procedure:
  1. Start the controller and open DJI GO 4 to confirm everything is working.
  2. Force stop DJI GO 4.
  3. Connect a USB cable from the controller to its own USB port.
  4. A prompt appears to select a different app — I choose pix+conrtol.
  5. From there, the drone connects and I can enter mission mode.
I'll let you know how it's ends.
