New Case Alternative for P1, P2, and P2V

Was complaining to one of my friends about how expensive the cases are that fit the Phantoms and he ran across this: http://www.amazon.com/Seahorse-SE-920F- ... ds=SE-920F

Its made by Seahorse and appears to be identical to the TradeCraft case with the exception that the foam isn't cut. There are a couple of places that are cheaper (http://www.carrycasesplus.com/seahorse- ... e-920.html, $113+about $8 in shipping), but I like amazon for how fast it ships and ease of return. I haven't ordered it yet, but I am seriously thinking about it. They seem to get good reviews. I would gladly save $55 (or more if Tradecraft charges shipping) and cut the foam myself.

The holy grail of cheap cases is the Duratool 22-14355 but it sold out everywhere when Phantom owners figured out it would work. It's not in stock until (at least) May.

I to would like a cheap case .. I don't need watertite , airtite or bomb proof. Just something to stick in my car or store it in.

Im holding out for a reasonably priced backpack solution. It seems that there are plenty of us ready to spend $100-120 on a well thought out over the shoulder case.

Based on what the seahorse website has and the tradecraft website, it is identical. The cases even look identical. Dimensions look like:

Seahorse Case:
Inside Dimensions
22.46" x 13.88" x 8.49"
(57.0cm x 35.2cm x 21.6cm)

Outside Dimensions
23.96" x 16.00" x 10.10"
(60.9cm x 40.6cm x 25.6cm)

I can't look up the tradecraft case because its blocked at work, but the outside dimensions are 24x16x10... identical.

I ordered the Seahorse case and will post pics and my thoughts when I receive it. Everything I've read says they are a quality case and well worth the price. I actually like the idea of cutting the foam like I want so I can organize all my accessories the way I want vs how someone else thinks they need to be done

I thought about buying one of those, but I've never been impressed with any aluminum cases I have seen. They always seem to be flimsy-ish and don't hold up long term compared to Pelicans and similar cases

I have the tradecraft and can confirm, tradecraft does indeed use seahorse cases.
Good case. Not pelican good, but not $400 either.

I would have ordered a Seahorse for the GoPro, but the Seahorse (similar size to the Pelican I ordered) was $90 and the Pelican was $99. Figured I'd check out what Pelican's are all about for $9 more

Nice price on that. I paid close to 200 USD but it came with precut foam.

Well I finally got the foam cut for both cases yesterday. Sorry I don't have more pics, but here is the Pelican rigged out with the GoPro stuff, and the Seahorse with the P2.

I tried to conserve space as much as I could so I could add other things to both cases down the road and not have to start over on new foam. The foam in both cases seems pretty close in quality, but the "cubes" that are cut into the pelican foam are a bit smaller and it makes it easier to cut close to the object size while using the precut lines (some of them, I just cut straight through the foam since it would make the opening to big for whatever object). My only complaint about the foam in the Seahorse is that it comes in 3 layers... 1 solid layer on the bottom, and 2 pick and pull layers. The 2 pick and pull layers don't line up, so you may cut an opening through the top layer on the precut lines, and it not at all hit on precut lines on the 2nd layer. Minor annoyance though. The case itself is nice, but as said in other threads, its not as nice as the Pelican. There are just minor things here and there that make the pelican seem nicer, but both the Pelican and the Seahorse have unconditional lifetime warranties, so unless you just want to have something that "feels" nicer, the Seahorse is a very good case. I just can't quite put my finger on what makes the Pelican seem nicer... perhaps the carry handle that has rubber on it, or the latches that seem (note I said SEEM) to latch stronger. Thats not to say the latching system on the Seahorse is bad by any means and I will not worry about any issues with the Pelican. Overall, they are both great cases and I would feel comfortable with either case. I bought a Pelican over a Seahorse for my GoPro because the Pelican was only slightly more (on Amazon Prime at least) and I wanted to compare the quality difference between the two cases.

Cliffs: Seahorse is very nice case, some minor annoyances with the foam, but not a dealbreaker. If you want a great case at a good price, it is a VERY good option, especially with its unconditional lifetime warranty. If you have to have the nicest thing out there, buy the Pelican. I can't place what it is about the case, but it seems nicer, plus you get to brag about your Pelican case like people brag about Yeti Coolers!
