I have the FW(1.1.6,8&9, 1.2,3,4,5,6) along with the older pilot 1.2 apk and the GO.apk, thanks to rigor as well. It is set up in a dropbox already.

Would also be a legal question. Courts may rule that a person does not have a right to alter the firmware. The firmware is owed by DJI. Right now I know of no exemption being given for this type of use (US... copyright office).

As a long time Jailbreaker, I can tell you, that there is no way they can prevent you from modifying the firmware or device. What idiots do with them, that's what gets you into trouble.

I don't know about that. A locked bootloader seems to do the trick when there are no obvious zero days or downgrade process.

They haven't done that but some devices are more difficult than others.

Yes, there is some truth there. Responsible adults need to make stuff like this clear. I sympathize with the FAA's dilemma, but am annoyed with their solution. That is because I don't understand what it solves.


I recently became involved using and customizing P3P's to capture difficult equestrian, sport activity, from a distance using tele-photo. Prior to that I hadn’t touched an RC vessel for a couple of decades, since my gas powered Cricket Back then guys were just fooling around with cameras on aircraft. Anything beyond the simple quarter mile range we were fooling around with would obviously fall into the military, weapons category and be military or law enforcement only. That is the way it used to be. This is the stuff cruise missiles and smart weapons are made of.

And yeah, the FEA and NTSB doesn’t want our drones bumping into other vessels, but the 500-pound gorilla is homeland security. There are other Feds watching, bigger Feds…

Sorry about being so opinionated here for a new member. I’ll try to tone it down. I really don’t mean to offend anyone. I do think the FAA might consider controlling drones the way firearms are controlled. IE background check first. Then proof of competence. (just an idea)

Continuing with my opinionated comments. I guess I am grateful to DJI for this P3P product. It really illustrates what is possible, cinematographically speaking using a drone. As a company one must deal with, I would rather deal with the US Post Office (inside joke). Just to take the topic of this thread as an example: The need for Phantom users regain control of hardware that they purchased. Oh, btw, on the P3P’s there are two versions: Version 2 was just done to improve production – r I g h t? It is just a coincidence that the motors run cool on V2….

I really am grateful, really. I think this is a cultural dilemma that isn’t going away any time soon. This business of changing our products, literally by force, sucks. It is being done without our knowledge, or our permission. I call this a cultural thing because I can’t see a domestic manufacturer behaving this way. No way.

And, I know people are going to want to shoot this idea down, but try to remember all of this technology originated in the West. I said the West, especially the software. Instead of Jailbreaking DJI, why not consider creating an Open-Source P3P. I’m good for a lot towards that goal, let’s say 100 for now. Will this fly?

There was a jumper on the original phantom that you could use. If you connected the jumper, powered on and powered off, it wiped the memory of the Phantom.

Knowing a little (very little) about software code, those instructions are still somewhere in the code for the P3. Find a mechanical way to trigger that jumper (the main control board of the P3 does not have them) and perhaps you could wipe the Phantom completely, including no fly zone information.

Without a physical hack, software would have to access the memory that stores the NFZ information (it exists somewhere, is writable and unlockable). Forensic hacking would be needed. I'm positive it is do-able, but I won't pay for someone to do it; if DJI is going to force change upon me, even before the FAA, and do so in a more restrictive manner than necesary, I will have no choice but to buy a P2, install lightbridge 1, and go back to a Hero 4.

I just want to take the **** thing up to fly. I'm a pilot. I have a 333. I get the need to promote safety and education, but there isn't an auto manufacturer in the world that limits their vehicles to a top speed of 75 mph.

I think you are right there when you are talking about the speed of 75 mph. The Germans had an informal agreement to limit production cars to 250 kph (155 mph) and if you had a fast one, you had to sweet talk the dealer to get it removed. I'm not sure if it is still in place.

But, all of this is on the table when you buy the car. No one is changing the rules on you after the sale, I guess that is the point....

We need someone to remove the micro sd inside their aircraft (not the one in the gimbal but the one on the main board inside ) to an image using 'Win32 Disk Imager' then PM me the file .

DJI recently removed hackable firmware versions off their servers to make hacks less accessible. It is now hit or miss which firmware versions are still downloadable from DJI.
