Is it necessary to be in airplane mode with an iPad mini. My tablet doesn't have a phone.What does it affect?

It's not necessary, but it could help your iPad run more efficiently.

What does it affect?

It allows you to quickly disable Cellular (if applicable), Bluetooth, and Wi-Fi.

The only other thing by being in Airplane mode is it also shuts off the W-Fi, and eliminate any incoming notifications.
