Just purchased a 5.8ghz helical which I have mounted on my blackpearl. My question is, should this be mounted in a vertical position or horizontal pointing towards the direction of flight ?

Depends on where the aircraft is. Bottom line is that it needs to point at the aircraft for optimal performance. I quite often reposition mine in flight depending on what I am doing.
