...and when you physically selected video through the app it no longer exhibited the switching behavior and stayed locked on video - or only when it was actually recording?

...and if this unreliable behavior is happening with simple video recording it seems a tad sketchy for trusting flight with, no?

Yes it was switching by itself very rapidly. When I tapped the record icon it locked into record mode and the video from the card was very nice. The screen of my tablet 9 Samsung Tab A) was horrible. I will try it out in a field nearby and see what happens. It could be an awesome App!
