You only need to plug it in using a usb cable and a gps is good to have but optional Bluetooth doesnt have a function with dji products and would creat unnecessary interference anyways Sent from my iPhone using PhantomPilots

You need to turn on the battery when you plug it in (like you would to turn on your drone) otherwise it won't send electricity. Also note there is 2 USB One is 1A and the 2nd is 2A Some phones can only charge with 2A
