I am questioning the validly of this Part 107 Small UAS Recurrent process to renew my Part 107 certificate / licensed FAA drone pilot. It offered by the FAA, but this allows someone to retake the test and change incorrect answers.

Seems to me this should be completed at a CATS testing center?

  • The training takes about 2 hours — at the end of the course, you’re given 90 minutes to pass a short multiple-choice test (45 questions)
  • You can take the exam as many times as you’d like and you may review the course material as you take the test.
  • If you get wrong answer’s you will be brought back to the exam with the incorrect answers marked.
  • You must correct your answers to 100% within one 90-minute session to pass the exam and access the Certificate of Completion.
After completing the online training course your certification will be renewed for 24 calendar months and you’re also qualified to fly at night if the need arises. There are no updates required to the IACRA website and you’ll continue to use the original hard copy certificate. Keep the certificate of completion along with a photo ID with you when you’re flying as proof your certification training is current..

Been through renewal 3 times. The first was full blown test at a test center. The second was also at at test center right in the middle of Covid. Had to pay for both; the second exam was just like the first; I think I scored 93 on both of them. The third and fourth was the online version which was free and as you described i.e. you get to correct any wrong answers and the test is not complete until you score 100%. I missed one or two on the online version; don't know what would happen if you got less than 70% on the first time through. At the end you do get a recertification certificate; if you plan to keep performing Part 107 jobs you must go ahead and recertify. I agree they have made it easy to recertify; remember if you are going for your FIRST certification you still have to go through the formal proctored version. Hope this helps.

I went through the exact same process including applying for a 6 mo. COVID extension before my 2nd fee paid test at an onsite testing center. Then two online study and recertifying tests that covered new items due to changes and additions in the regulations until I scored 100%.

Did the same to pass Ireland's version of recreational sub 250 gram operators' certification good for the EU. All online and retakes until I scored 100%. Pretty straight forward once you get familiar with the process.

It is perfectly valid. The idea is that you get it- the correct answer.
