Latest Firmware ok with older version of app?

Hi all, when I had my Standard the newest firmware would lag when using an older version of the Dji go app, is this the case with the Advanced? I'm not sure if I should update the firmware or not as I will keep the old version of the app as 3.0.0 is terrible.
