I'd recommend the Phantom 3's or 4's and the Litichi app. I use the DJI app but read on the forums that Litichi is better with follow me. These drones aren't tiny but will do what you're looking for.

I've run 3 in a row many times without any issue. I always make sure they cool down before charging though.

Can't you return it to the place of purchase for an exchange since it's defective?

I fly over tracks as well with no problems.

Was that a battery from when you had the crash? Perhaps something happened to the inside of the battery when it went down.

The Argtek antennas make a huge difference with distance. They also provide more stability so you don't lose connection with the AC including video signal.
