You need to read the regs -- Part 91 for starters. Helicopters are NOT restricted to 500' and yes, hobbyists are restricted to 400'. Read their advisory circular -- last paragraph -- 400'.

When flying at Picket Post Mountain we were getting numerous "High wind velocity, Fly with caution" alerts. You can see in the video of our mobile heliport the P4A is pretty unstable. What wind speed triggers the High wind velocity? Read somewhere there is an Extreme alert? Just curious.....

I think you are right, however, they say if you're not flying "within" their program follow the FAA guidelines (link provided) which states you must be flying "within" the programing of.....if I'm "within" something I assume I'm a part of it??? You're obviously more well versed on this than me...

Kinda liken VLOS rules to Uber driverless cars. The technology is there but certainly not perfected...safety driver required. Technology is there to fly our UAS out of VLOS but is it perfected? Is VLOS our safety driver? Also you have to remember VLOS was mandated by Congress. Nuff said...
