Actually, the news stated the pilot that crashed it was not hired by the event. Apparently he was a recreational user who didn't know/check the laws. The event was captured by the crew that actually was hired for the event. They were well away from the crowds but we're fortunate to catch it.

I agree. ...which is why you and other flyers should be careful and look at the proper link that lays out the law article by article. Not a brief tutorial link that skims over the basics. Recreationally it's so tight it's virtually impossible to fly within any city or town limit. You can't...

Thought I'd ad my 2 cents. As of this year (2016) recreational users (and commercially within the exemptions - ie Phantoms etc) it is illegal to fly a drone within 5 MILES of any town or built up area in Ontario. That means there actually has to be 10 miles or more between 2 towns to legally fly...
