Perhaps provide the raw MP4 right off the SD card, no editing. If you edit from your PC, then there's no chance in mixing up the cache version of the video vs the high-res version on the card.

Depends what you mean by 'side to side'. One doesn't have side to side control, but it does have 3 axis movement and it tests this on power up. I don't believe the compass is needed for its gimbal test but it won't fly. You may have broken the thin flexible ribbon cable or one of the gray...

I don't think beginner mode would have helped in this case. For the P3, that only limits distance and height.

GPS does have Z axis but not very accurate. My Garmin Nuvi can provide altitude. But I too understood Phantoms used barometer exclusively for altitude. Internally it is recorded in meters, and shows that way in video caption.
